Drive without Propshaft???
Gents,

I've had this rattle under my truck for some time and while I was crawling around under it tonight I think I may have found the culprit. The front driveshaft or propshaft u-joint where it meets the front diff is missing about half a cup off of it so that it slaps around in the yoke.

What I am wanting to know is can I drive the truck with the shaft off while I drop it (shaft) off for repair? Only 8 bolts total, 4 on diff and 4 on CV at t-case and its off.

Also, for the 5 spd guys, do ya'll have anything bolted across the bottom of the frame about 8-10 inches in front of the trans crossmember? I have 2 bolts dangling from inside the frame rail and the are signs (rust/paint vairations) of where there was something at one time. I do have the skidplate at the t-case but I don't know if there is something that is supposed to go underneeth the middle of the tranny.

Any help is always appreicated.

TIA,

Re:Drive without Propshaft???
Pull the front shaft and you have a two wheel drive with a low gear set. Mine is off right now, I'll put it on when I find my "roundtoit"

Re:Drive without Propshaft???
I pulled my front driveshaft off chasing a vibration after I got my lift.

Drove around with it off for a week.

Only put it back on because I was going camping/wheeling and figured I'd better have 4 wheel drive.

Just mark everything so you put it back on the exact way it came off and you'll be fine.

phox
