downshift squeal and low vibration
Okay guys, want to get a few opinions before i start poking around, started a couple of days ago, but it's getting very anooying. Any time I downshift reguardless of the gear or the speed I'm getting a short squeal (best way I can describe it) it lasts for about a full second as I let off the clutch. Not exactly sure where its coming from. Doesn't sound like the clutch slipping, especially since it doesn't happen from a stop or upshifting no matter how slowly the clutch is engaged, or how hard i jam on the go pedal, the clutch is still very strong, can't get it to slip in any gear yet (77K on the clock and no real bombs yet). I could be way off but thinking it could be at the turbo, does it spin up at all during a downshift? The boost gauge doesn't budge from zero during decel and it doesn't do it during acceleration.
Also keep in mind I suffer an 80%+ hearing loss (like -28db) for anything above 1khz, so this must be quite loud for me to even hear it, but its driving me nuts. Can't hear my turbo sing her song
Also picked up a funny low frequency vibration that appears to be coming from the front end somewhere while decelerating from about 60 down to 45mph, not sure if it could be related, going to change out the xfer case fluid tommorrow night and see if that resolves that, that and drain off a bit of fluid from the front diff. I know i over filled it at bit last month (filled it to the bottom of the fill hole so i could drain it some later, last batch got water contaminated and wanted to try at least thin out any that remained after the change). But I did just rotate the tires last night and that made no change.
Sound familiar to anyone? Idea's on what to look at first? I'd like to keep it away from the dealer unless i know its covered by whatever is left of my warranties. Started with 3 different ones for some reason and have no idea whats left covered anymore besides the Cummins.
TIA for any ideas.
Dave
Edited: because i can't spell, bet i still missed some
