I am thinking about getting an axle assembly from an 02 and putting it into my 98.5. Both are dana 80 with non slip. I can get the axle for about $800. Has anyone done this and how does it work? Is it worth the money for the improvement? Any problems? Thanks.

 

Searching might be tricky, but it has been done. Forrest Nearing owned a truck that had it done, but I don't know who the previous owner was that did it (he is on this forum though).

Besides the obvious, you also need a new proportioning valve from the disc brake trucks because the valving changed. I plan on doing this exact swap very soon if I can swing a deal to purchase a wrecked truck that has the disc brakes.
