Coolant Leak (help please)

Saw a little puddle of coolant under the truck just now, haven't driven it in over 24 hours.
Leak is in the area of the red circle:

Position was laying on my back looking up at oil pan on passenger side of truck.
What is the piece on the right of the pic? I hope this is covered under warranty.

Thanks,
~Rob

Have you looked topside for the leak? I don't think there is coolant coming from the A/C compressor. The water pump is right above it along with several coolant hoses. Take a look and see if you can see where it is coming from.

Oh yea, check your coolant level.

Thanks Geico,
After looking at a manual for a 2001, I still couldn't figure it out. Then I saw in the manual where it states in the coolant section, they show diagrams for a truck without AC.
Checked the coolant level, overflow bottle still has some, but needs some added. I will poke around tomorrow, but will take it to the dealer first thing on Monday.

Haven't driven the truck since Friday. As I said, yesterday, I saw a puddle on the ground. This morning, the puddle had dried up. Now, later in the afternoon, after it got way hot outside, more fluid puddled on the ground. Does this mean anything to anyone (besides "you have a leak")? I mean, could you eliminate the head gasket from these symptoms? My guess is it really look like its coming from the water pump. Any idea if those fall under the 100,000 mile Cummins warranty (my guess is: no)? Also, at 75000, should I have the serpentine belt replaced while they are in there?

Thanks,
~Rob

Rob,
This is the same place mine leaked. I can only hope its not what you have, but, it's a strong possibility.
First, look at the opposit side under the injector pump. you will need a wire brush. Look for a casting with 2 numbers about an inch tall. See if this says "53". If so, this is your issue:
53 blocks were prone to cracking in an area under the turbo. I had this issue and had to pull the motor and replace the block.
These blocks were casted between 99 and 2002.
Now, Dodge does warrantee this if you have under 100,000 miles which you do. They may try to get out of it, but, they ARE obligated. You may have to pay for labor. I would strongly seggest getting it in to the dealer and have it checked. sooner the better.
I had 120,000 on mine when it let go and paid for all of it. My son and I ended up doing the work ourselves and got it done for around $1600.
Good luck and keep me posted!

Hadn't heard of a 53 block on an '02. Everything I have read says up to (and including 01). I sure hope that isn't the case. Too hot out there now to be crawling around on the cement to take a look.

That's the best info. I have read also. Don't see him mentioning the '02s there. I just went and looked and I think it says 38c????

Most water pumps have a little tiny bleeder hole for antifreeze to bleed out of once they start going bad...after that you don't have too long before you need to replace them.
I have never replaced my cummins one, so I'm not sure about that one.

If you have an 02, You DONT have a #53 Block, Beside they dont leak up front like that.. Has to be something with the water pump or a Hose up there...

Waterpump is bad. Covered under Cummins 100k warranty
Having them replace the serpentine belt while they are in there.
Just can't get the truck back until tomorrow

Thanks for everyone's help

Is that the "Cummins" 100k warranty or the "Dodge" 100k warranty?

Cummins I believe.
The Dodge warranty is 3/36 (Although my powertrain components have 100k warranty as well, which must be a Dodge warranty, because Cummins has nothing to do with those). Certain 2002 trucks (depends on when you bought them, I bought mine very late in the model year) have different warranties than other years (or even 2002's purchased much earlier).
