codes

the other night while driving my truck it had a studder in mid rpm while in 3rd or 4th gear. I took it to a friends shop he ran the codes on it and the only thing that came up was p1693 I understand that is a companion code and shouold have another code along with it but it doesnt. We tried clearing the code many times and it comes right back but still by it self.

I havent had the studder for two days now but I still have this code and want to know why. Any ideas?

Did you use one of the less expensive code readers or the mack daddy worth around $5000.00? The way I undersand it the 1693 code comes from the PCM (powertrain control module) it mearly indicates that there ar other codes in the ECM(engine control module). Again the way I understand it only the more expensive code reader can read codes from the ECM.

correct me if I am missunderstanding please.

truthfully im not to sure on the quality of his scanner he owns his own shop and his main business is dodge diesel's. He has never personally had a truck throw just this code. But yes you are correct as far as I know on that fact the the less expensive scan tools will not always find all codes. Our first thought was that the vp 44 or the lift pump was on its way out. He did a stress test on the lift pump and said it passed with flying colors.

And as I stated before tried to clear the code numerous times and each time it automatically came right back.

I thought of just taking it to a dealer and letting them scan it but personally I dont like anyone else driving my truck even if its for 50ft and I really hate having someone I dont know/trust touching my truck.

Please read my post again, I never said he dosent have the equipment to scan them. He scaned my truck and as I stated before has never personally had a truck throw just this code.

All im trying to do is get an idea of why my truck would give just this code. I bought the truck in September of 06' and the previous owner had all the paperwork for all work ever done on the truck. I looked through it and didnt find anything other than basic maint. but that dosent mean they didnt lose a paper or two over the years.

Come on over to Alvarado Saturday. I'll have my Actron and Smarty both there. I have yet to have a code, CEL or not, that they have failed to pick up.

Look here .
