I just installed a new VP44 last Friday as well as the BD 5 psi. Low Pressure light. After doing this the truck runs much better, starts much better, and will now come out of the hole when it is bogged down in gear. However with that being said it now acts like it is slipping the clutch when I gas it around 16 to 18 RPM, and when it is in 4th and 5th is the worst time. What am I looking at fixing now? Thanks

 

I went 185,000 on my original clutch. The Clutch disc was worn out. The pressure plate seemed to be ok when it was changed out. I never had a slipping clutch but I was getting close to that point. I had alot of chatter starting off with the fiver in tow after it had time to heat up.

With your new VP44 you now have full power. In 4 and 5th the torque appears to be overpowering the clutch kit. Can't tell you if its the Pressure Plate or Disc.

I suggest you consider a Clutch kit change out. A good clutch kit runs anywhere from 500 to 800 dollars. I choose to install an aftermarket 13" kit
which was bad the first time around. The vendor replaced it and all is good.

If you choose to replace your clutch with an aftermarket kit and you encouter a loud metallic noise with the clutch engaged and no noise with the clutch pedal depressed, don't let anyone tell you its the Tranny main shaft bearing. Get a new clutch kit from the vendor. Make sure you tell him you've heard this is a common thing.

I know at least two other people on this form that has happened to.
