Changing Axle Fluids--How To Do It?

What I was wondering about the magnet was WHY it was there. I've since learned that it's there to collect metal shavings that come off the diff gears during the break-in process.

Most just put the sillicone on the cover, let it sit for 30 mins or so so it gets a bit of a skin and then install.

Can't emphasize enough how important it is to fill to a 1/2" below the fill hole on the rear diff and 3/4" below on the front.
95% of the rigs that come in with leaking differential seals are filled to the bottom of the fill hole. Most will stop leaking when enough has leaked out to reach the proper level but in the meantime can ruin brake shoes and pads.
