Question Changed Intercooler Boots Last Night and ...

Holy bajeevas, what a pain in the neck on the 24 valves, do yall know of any easier way to install these? The lower boot on the passenger side is a pain in the EDIT. Starting to do quite a bit of the boot swaps and looking for advice on a easier way, or less of a headache anyway. Thanks

Mine took alot of hollerin' and cussin' to help it on, but I think it helped some. I also tried pullin off the whole piping to the intercooler, installed the lower boot while it was off, then installed to i/c.

One word....HAIRSPRAY. The boots should slip right over the flanges with very little cussing involved.

If I was to try something like that, my truck would SLAP that perfume bottle right out of my hand, KICK me over backwards and REFUSE to start for 3 hours and 45 minutes.

If you do aftermarket boots some do suggest boiling them in water to soften them.
Either hairspray or bicycle tube repair glue worked really nice for me.Both will help the boot to hold on the IC or tubing after mounting it. With the tire repair stuff it can be a (insert choice profanity) to remove them. But if prepped right it holds old stockers up to 45 psi for more than a year.

If you have alot of boost the factory boots are not rated for it. the silicone boots are rated at 110 or 125 psi

My stock boots would pop off with the hy35 pushing a mere 18 pounds. I worked from under the bumper and over the rad support with the turbo connector off. It's all in how you hold your mouth. I said darn once or twice too.

I've installed a few sets with no trouble at all. The way that I do it is take the old boots off & install new boots using hairspray, but don't tighten them. Then loosen the elbow on the bottom of the turbo & turn it & the intercooler piping until everything lines up perfect. After I am sure that everything is aligned correctly..I tighten the clamps on the upper boot. Then the upper clamp on the lower 45* boot making sure that nothing moves. I then use a bar & hold pressure on the intercooler pipe [lightly] as I tighten the bottom clamp. I pry against the sway bar. Then tighten the elbow on the turbo.
