Changed Alternator, now shifting funny
Last night my volt meter dropped to 8, checked out alternator and was not charging. installed rebuilt one and now charging is back to 14, but when I hit the highway , the shifting pattern was different. seemed to stay longer in first and second, went into third and overdirve good. does this sound like the transmission is going or did the low volts change something in the shift pattern?

If the electrical system was disconnected for any length of time, you should reset the APPS.
Now you'll have to disconnet the batteries for some time or disconnect the connector ont he APPS. hook the batteries back up. Turn the key on DO NOT START and press the throttle to the floor and return to idle. Turn off key. You're good to go.
If that's not it, you may have a bad battery causing the grief including the dead alternator.

If after resetting the APPS doesn't make any difference, check your battery cables to make sure they are clean and tight and double check all connections on your alternator that you disconnected.
Do a search on this issue. It's a common occurrence with our trucks.
WARNING: Be extremely careful while checking the alternator connections!!! Don't let your wrench touch any metal surface I recently learned the hard way and burned a hole in the AC line near the alternator I was bummed. Better yet check the alternator with both batteries disconnected.

Disconnect the batteries for a minimum of a half hour and leave the key in the on position while they are disconnected. Turn the key off, connect the batteries and then turn the key to the on position before you press the pedal and release it. Push the pedal slowly and let it return slowly. That will do the apps reset.

I disconnected the batteries for 3 days, hooked them back up tonight and turned key to on position, than pushed down accelerator slowly than let it back slowly.Started it and took it for a test ride and same thing. I accelerate slowly up to about 2100 rpm, it won,t shift to 2nd until i drop revs. going into 3rd is better and over drive is good. What should I try next.

Just for fun unhook the positive lead from the alternator tape the bare end up then go for a drive, if the symptom dissappears, remove the alternator take it back where you got it from and get another, it could be possible that it has a bad diode and you are leaking an AC signal causing tranny issues
