Have a chance to get rid of my HEMI
for a cummins. The problem is the cummins has almost 200k miles. Seems to run GREAT and drives straight.
I can get into this truck for about 5K. Is this a good deal?

Do you know any history of the truck? I just bought one with 260k. Have some minor issues, but I like doing my backyard mechanics after work! I am putting in a crank sensor after work. Hopefully that cures my only ill with this beast. Read these forums. I have learned a lot in a week!
Its a 1999 2500 HD Quad Cab SLT laramie.

No signs of a goose neck in the bed. Its clean, but we all know lots can clean any turd.

yea mine was cleaned and they did such a good job that it appeared the head was replaced. The freeze plugs and lines are factory clear coated and when clean they look new. At least you have records. I have nothing. So every day after work I put in on my buddies lift and insect and correct crap I dont like. Actually when I put it on the lift my friend(real good mechanic) we noticed hangers on the wrong side of the truck. Thats when I discovered that it used to have smoke stacks. All that I can hope is that the previous owner liked diesels and took care of mine LOL! He had a few wiring issues under the truck that were

Since its a 99 my concern would be Vp (Inj. pump) and Lp (Lift pump) I would see if you can take the truck and get the fuel pressure checked and scanned for codes. If it checks out ok then it sounds good.
Getting it checked for codes and fuel pressure is an excellent idea. I see you're from that part of the country where the water gets a bit high at times...any chance it could have been flooded? If any further doubts, run a Carfax report on it. If you buy it, plan to put gauges in it pronto.
run the vin through a dealership database to see if it had any problems. mine showed a lift pump replacement at 66,000 miles. also check the top of the block underneath the exhuast manifold for coolant leakage or cracking, being a 99 it is probably a 53 block. pressure test the coolant system if possible. If you find nothing wrong, buy it and don't look back
Thanks for the updates guys. I took it to a friend at the *********** and he ran some tests and let me know the Lp was on its last leg and may have already killed the Vp or vise versa. So ill pass and keep looking. I would like one with about 100K, but dang those are hard to find with all these FEMA trailer tow jobs around these parts.
Too bad you're so far away. Up here in Wyoming, these Dodge trucks are selling for dirt cheap. I just moved out here from California in 05', and I can't believe the price difference. Right down the road from me, there is a guy selling a 98.5 24V 4x4 Club Cab long bed with 5spd and about 150xxx miles on it. It is a pretty clean truck with a gooseneck hitch (standard around here) and he wants 12,800 for it. Are you guys seeing prices similair to this?
At the dealership down from my house there is a 98 LWB Quad Cab with 4 inch exhaust system, nice air bag system with 81K miles for 14. This is a clean truck and if I was not in this Hemi i would be in that truck.
