blower Fuse
blower Fuse
Has anyone has a problem with the 30amp Blower fuse blowing. Must be a short somewhere but have not be able to find it. Of course the heater/AC blower does not work. Tried to replace it with the heater/AC blower off and the fuse does not blow, but as soon as I turn on the heater/AC blower the fuse blows. Just wondering if there is anything short of start pulling apart everything starting at the blower itself and working backward to the switch. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Note..the following is for a 2002 truck, but may work for your truck.
The blower motor is fed in the 2002 by a 40amp [30 in yours] fuse. This power goes to the "blower motor relay" in the PDC[power distribution center] via a DarkGreen/Yellow striped 12 guage wire. When this relay is activated it's contact closes and power is applied to the motor via a DarkGreen wire. The other side of the motor is a Black/tan striped wire. If you remove your glove compartment [empty, tilt down, and colapse in the top corners to remove] you will see two connectors. Unplug the rightmost connector [should have only two wires, Darkgreen and the Black/tan one]. Take a ohm meter and check the resistance of the motor, it should be about 10.7 ohms, +- a couple ohms. Your motor is probably bad and will read quite a bit less than that. You can also replace your fuse when the motor is unhooked and see if it still blows. If the resistance of the motor looks ok, then start looking at the wiring. But I'd bet on the motor. At least its where you can get at it. Good luck, and I hope this helps.

Another thing I forgot, the motor/blower may not be able to turn because of crud in the blower area. If you take it apart, also check the about 1/2" ID hose that runs to the side of the blower motor. This tube is used to keep the motor cool and should be checked for blockage. You should consider buying an aftermarket filter or screen from [Geno's, etc] that mounts on the cowl just in front of the windshield that will keeps the crud from getting into your heat/cool system. Some people have had to replace their A/C evaporator because of stuff getting thru the stock screen and rotting out the bottom edge. I've heard it's not much fun.
