Black Fuel Filter?
Re:Black Fuel Filter?
Stuff will definately grow in the fuel. We have spend hundreds of thousands of dollars having outside vendors come in with special pumps and filters to clean up our 100,000 gallon storage tanks. It will get so nasty, the engine won't run.
I use power service on very nearly every tank. I use half a quart with every fill up and about every sixth tank, I will dump a whole quart in at fill up.
Like SmurF says, my truck my money. I like it and it makes me feel better so I do it. Have never had a problem yet with almost 400,000 miles on three trucks.
Re:Black Fuel Filter?
FYI dealers here will charge $ 80.00 to change filter
I change mine every 10000, allways completely drain bowl, clean wif sensor and bowl with lint free cloth, fill with clean fuel, bump the lp a couple times and fire right up. ;D anything left in the bowl has to go thru the filter to the center and top before making it way to the vp-44.
$80.00 to change a $12.00 filter???? I think I must be in the wrong line of business ???
wk

Re:Black Fuel Filter?
I have been changing my own since the ******* wanted $42 bucks just for the filter! Fleetgard price- About $15.00. Being able to do your own maintenence-Priceless!
Re:Black Fuel Filter?
phox - the other thing you might try next time is after you bump your starter a couple of times and you know the filter housing is full, put the go pedal to the floor (I noticed you said you only messaged it lightly). When I change my filter and when I replaced my injectors I only had to crank about 5 seconds with pedal to the floor. Ive never had to crack and bleed any injectors...maybe i"m lucky but it's worth a try.

ps: my filter usually comes out drk gray to black, every other oil change

Re:Black Fuel Filter?
Yea, I heard that too but if you think about it what can be worse than cranking your engine with no fuel to lubricate/seal your piston rings. :P

I never give it any pedal when I start normally cause she fires right now.

If anyone thinks it's bad to put the pedal down after an oil or injector change please speak up and give us the science why. ???

Thanks,
Jim
Re:Black Fuel Filter?
Time to change my fuel filter. So, I stopped at the dealer where I buy my oil filter for $8.00 and some change, same as Geno's. Get the filter and invoice, go to the young lady to pay for it, without looking at the price. That will be $36.00 and some change please! Picked myself up off the floor and replied, I don't think so! Came home and clicked on Geno's site to order a fuel and oil filter.
The Mopar box did say, Water Seperator on it.
Re:Black Fuel Filter?
DC stealers around here charge 4000 for the filter and 40.00 to install. Found that out while arguing over a lift pump replacement. Tech said pump was good...filter bad. I ahd allready used Hoppers gauge, and new different. Long story short after they replaced the filter for 80.00, the pump still needed replacing. Cost me 80.00 to say I told you so
Geno's seems to be the place for filters...delivered to your doorstep ;D
wk

Re:Black Fuel Filter?
Yep the pony express (UPS) is bringing mine to the door from Geno's 12.95 for the filter then I got some oil filters. I got to get the fram out of it before I kill my new truck. :'( OK about the black gunk. On my old school truck (PSD), hang on I guess it was pretty darn advanced but anyway I always had the black stuff. I even went to other stations for 10k to see if this was the cause. Guess it wasn't to bad for the truck cause it was always wanting to haul butt............and on another note what needs to be in the fuel additive?????? Does cetane boost effect a 24 valver?
