Am I getting all the power?

I do not think I am getting enuff power from this truck.
I have changed filters, run lucas in fuel, changed lp. getting 15 at idle and about 12 wot.
I do not have any gauges except fuel presssure. I have sprayed all intercooler connections with soap bubble.

It just seem to loose power pulling a 21 ft travel trailer. I have cleaned all sensors also.

I drove a 01 with the EZ on the lowest setting and it has 3 times the power. could it make that much difference? granted i have 4x4 with drw, and my friends is a 2500 srw 2 wheel drive.

All i have had besides this truck is a ford 7.3 non turbo to compare it to. what else can i do? thanks

Not sure what you want to spend, but I can not say enough about how good a box and set of injectors will make you feel.

At first I had a van Aaken box that I bought in early 2000. It made a one second difference in zero to sixty times and 1.5 second difference in quarter mile times, as registered by a G-Tech.

Once that got boring, I ordered up the Edge Comp and DD2 injectors. Do not remmeber the increases, but it has much more power.

Just remember, that stock clutch may not hold too much power. Mine is still holding even on 5 x 5. And you will want a full set of gauges regardless of how much you want to add to the truck.

not enough power

How does you truck idle is it smooth or is it rough? If it is rough you could have a bad voltage problem.

truck runs good at idle, no codes, just feels doggy with a load on it. granted it is a 5 speed and there is a big hole between 3rd and 4th gear.

I hav'nt checked the output of the alternator, but the guage in the truck shows it is charging about 14. I know it might not be correct but it starts easy.

I just hav'nt driven another truck like it to compare it to.

I dont want to spend too much just a chip and probably the rest of the gauges.

I dont know if i need a comp. I know it has more range, just dont think i need to get too complicated.

Get yourself a Comp...... it isn't any more complicated to install.......sure, you have a wire to tap but that probably takes all of 10 minutes to do. Even an EZ will give you a very large "seat of the pants" power gain. BTW, with my Comp on 3x4, it fills in that "hole" between 3rd and 4th nicely! When you have so much more torque to play with, the 1000 rpm spread between 3rd and 4th isn't much of an issue! IMO, the 24v's really need a little bit of extra fueling to truely make them enjoyable to drive and a pleasure to tow with.

Thanks CTD NUT, I was reading about useing the comp without the wire tap.

I just need a little more power without smokeing the clutch. What is the horsepower increase on the level 1?

I'm sure the instructions that come with it explains all that, just wondered how it compaired with the EZ.

Besides fuel pressure gauge what else is a must? EGT, Boost

Comp is essentially an EZ until you tap the wire. When you tap the wire, then you have the option to just turn the ****.

Let me see if i am understanding this correct.

The comp works like the EZ if the wire is not tapped, Am i correct in assumeing that you have 3 power settings just like the EZ? Then if i tap the wire then there are more options. Thanks

the Edge Comp has 5 main settings with 5 sub-settings giving you 25 different fueling options.

from the Edge site "Power Level 1 on the Comp is the same as the EZ; on Power Levels 2-5 additional power is added via the wire tap onto the injection pump. If the pump wire is not attached with a Comp, Levels 2-5 are still operational, but the power gain is not any higher than Level 1. Under this scenario, however, power will come on much earlier in the throttle."

You're going to want to get a pyrometer as well as that fuel pressure gauge.

hey 2 busy,
you can see from my sig what i've done to my truck. for a comparison- part of the time for work i drive a 2000 drw w/ a 6-speed. it seems pretty doggy compared to my own truck. those EZ's make a large difference in my opinion.

OK, now tell him that he might slip his clutch fairly quickly and need an upgrade. And then tell him with the Comp wire, he might toast his VP44 injection pump within a few hundred miles and need another one.

And tell him there's no way to be sure until he actually installs the mods, so he needs to be prepared to pay.

I'm not wanting the extra power to hot rod and spin tires. I just want more power to tow travel trailer up hills.

I am aware i will need pyro gauge. I'm fixxin to be 41 years old and my teenage days of showing out are over.

I like my truck and i am not going to go out and try to tear it up.If i decide on the comp i probably will not peirce the wire at this time.

silencer ring still in , muffler still on, factory air filter.

Just wanted some input on what others had to say about increased power.

FWIW, my stock clutch is holding up fine - even on 5x5.......and if tapping the wire is a concern, don't tap it until you are ready......I would highly recommend a 4" exhaust, a Scotty II and a Smartfuel kit when preparing to tap the wire.....also, a fuel pressure gauge is a must.
