99 tranny trouble

Friend has a 99 3500 drw. The transmission will not shift out of first,
unless you take the rpm up past 2000, then let off the go pedal, let
the rpm drop about 600 rpm's then it shifts.

What she need to do, besides, a new trans?

Thanks!

Check it for codes sounds like the governor solenoid is bad in the tranny .
It could also be a bad vehicle speed sensor.

Either one is a do it yourself repair.
Drain the fluid and pull the pan to get to the solenoid.

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
rattlerbob5.9 pretty well sums it up.

In addition it could be the RPM sensor on tranny extension. It does not affect speedo. The sensor on differential may effect speedometer. Inspect wiring from diff sensor to frame for damage.
The governor pressure solenoid and gov press tranducer in tranny, require pan removal of course. So inspect/adjust bands especially KD band in front.

I have a similar problem with my 1999 2500 and it was just a selenoid, but went ahead and rebuilt it anyhow.
