I've got over 200,000kms now(chip on from day one I bought truck new May 2000), with 1 lift pump c/o at 90,000kms, steering shaft, and torque converter( lots of towing prior to shift kit install) all covered by warranty. Other than that no problems whatsoever, still even have original VP-44 (run fuel conditoner since new)

Since then just upgraded to FASS, MAD ECM, injectors and H.P. Trans not because anything was wrong, just wanted more power . I absolutely love driving my truck( more now especially since upgrades) ALL THE TIME, and get great mileage. I tow trailer lots (10,000lbs) from spring to fall, drove the bag off of it since day one(BUT maintain it exceptionally), it still runs fantastic, no squeaks or rattles or issues, it's a very very tough truck.

Maybe you got one built on a monday or friday . Have you maintained it properly throughout owning it?. Maybe you should sell and buy a new Dodge. I've had other brands of trucks that can't even compare to this one, my old 80 Dodge 4x4 was pretty tough though.

40567, One lift pump at 38,500. I now know that 98.5 --- 02 have fuel system issues. But All that said I love my truck!!! Once my warrenty is over I'll put after market items on to improve the fuel system. And when Barry gets done with his truck, I'm toast

I am on my 3rd or 4th LP. Had to have a short block installed at 4500 miles-block cracked. Upgraded the trans and fuel system.
I love my truck.

There are Diesel owners and Diesel enthusiasts. When a owner has trouble a dealer can't fix, he buys somthing else. The enthusiasts actualy like learning about their trucks problems and get gratification when they have mastered OEM problems with the help of this and other CTD forums. ALL.. electronic trucks can be a challenge. These moderatly juiced 2nd gen trucks are far less complicated than what is rolling off the dealer lots of today and tommarow. If you cant get your research "right" from THIS data base, yea, ist time to sell!!

Right On Walt!

Just because you have a problem with you truck doesn't mean to give up. The answers are out there but you got to look at it ffrom all angles. Sometimes the answer don't come from the book. (Which most dealerships use to find there answers...)

But if you not happy with you current truck its time to move on...

Sorry about your problem man. I have a 2001 and bought it 1 1/2 years ago.

Problems so far: craked rim, stuck rotor, fan for interior heat.

This was intended to be a daily driver but i find it too ruff so i drive something else and the truck sits there for weeks at a time and this way it doesn't break down.

I had a toyota truck for 6 years that drove great and gave me a lot less problems but would not budge my 27 foot 5 er.

I am also very discourage by the service at the dodge dealership it must be a common problem. Other dealership in this area seems more customer friendly

Also a second owner.
-rebuit the transmision and added a billit tork converter
-exhaust manifold cracked in the center
-second lift pump (now have an additional in-line pump)
-second VP44 (blue Chip this time and not dealer)
-one cracked transmission line, one line just rubbed through
-second APPS (ran the jumper wire to the computer (cut the orange and black (post 23), run to the light blue and black on the APPS and splice in)
-added the electrical filter from DTT
-replaced all the factory battery cable ends
-finally got the water leaks sealled up (53 block)
-replaced the tank modual to fix the leaks (new one has plastic parts)
-replaced the crankshaft possition sensor to fix a no start situation
-replaced the transmission speed sensor twice

I run this truck all over the country pulling a 16' tool trailer a lot of the time.
It has almost 200,000 on it now.

Well the dealerships won't buy it back and 2 people say the same thing so.The MDH on the sticker is 101019 which is October the 10th at 7 O-clock at night. Of the 48 diesel engines that I have run over the years this is the worst by farrrrrrrrrrrr .With the money that I have wasted on it HELL will freeze over before I buy crysluurrr cumins do-g_ @$)(* ! any more. It is time to take them to COURT.
I was hoping to get some info on the two sites but guess I shall not bother anymore.

Why would the dealerships buy it back?? - the truck is 7 years old and has 300 000 kms Obviously, you got a lemon...and it does happen. All of us certainly dont seem to have had the problems that you have.

Guess you better drop a CAT in your engine bay.

My solution is if you don't like the thing, get rid of it.........no since complaining about something that obviously you don't like and never have. If you are looking for people to complain about there trucks, you kinda picked the wrong website, everyone here is pretty darn happy with their trucks. If you want someone to complain about cummins with you, I suggest getting on one of the powerstroke websites and then you can complain all you want!!

Lemons happen, not every single thing on this planet can be perfect and sadly some people such as yourself got one. It sucks, but stuff happens. My mom has a brand new Escalade that is the biggest pile of crap I've seen. It is seriously in the shop almost every week and they can't figure out what's wrong with it...............but they are trying. $60,000 bucks for a Caddy and it's a lemon..........but what do you do???

If you don't like it, sell it plain and simple. Try to find a new truck that will make you happier and hope you get a good one this time. Sorry that your truck has caused you so many problems, maybe a Chevy or a Ford is in your future.

Sorry About your buddy. Things happen.

I'd help you with your truck, but I'm allready behind since I'm going to be working on a junk truck, and you know more than I do.

If you really want to be helped, take it to somebody who knows what they are doing. the Dealer Techs aren't exactly specialists. Most of them have minimal school training, and just come off the streets like we did.
