98 Quad 24V auto 78K

Going to look at a 98 Quad Cab 24 valve automatic diesel with 78k miles on it. I know some of the issues with the 24 valves, especially the lift and injector pump issues, does this apply to the 98's as well or just the later 200-2002 trucks? Anything special I need to pay attention to since this was the first year for the 24 valve, also any suspension or rust issues with these trucks?

Thanks

the 53 block is your biggest concern, beyond that the fuel systems got better as they got newer, so a 98.5 would be typically more apt to fail then an 02'. with that amount of miles it could have been replaced or you could be that much closer....hard to say. for the suspension, well the typical front end stuff, all the joints should be checked out you can tell alot by the way it steers. with that number of miles it prolly has been taken care of. I would check the fuel pressure asap and not touch a 53 block with less then a ton of miles on it.

Thanks for the reminder about the 53 block, I looked at a nice 2000 Dually about a month ago all leather and in incredible condition with only 49k miles on it, but I crawled under it and found the 53, thanked the guy for his time a quickly jumped in the truck and drove away. I would have bought that truck otherwise.

Does the Key Code thing work on the 98 trucks to check the codes for any issues such as failed pumps?

No,

I think you guys need to get a grip on the 53 block thing. If there was anyway to get real "failure" numbers you would be surprised at how few actually crack.
