97 KDP Question...kinda urgent

So i installed the KDP tab yesterday on my truck and got to thinking AFTER the job was done about the dowel pin itself. So i didnt see the pin actually, i put the punch into the hole and tapped her a few times and the punch was actually inside the hole about 1/2"-3/4" before contact was made with something solid. I moved the punch around the side walls and nothing seemed tapered etc. But i got to thinking, might the dowel pin have been missing?? How far can the dowel pin be recessed??? I hope i dont have to take this apart again to install a dowel pin...anyone with any info let me know!!!!! Thanks

Pretty sure you lost it.

The dowel is just a bit under 5/8" long.....and if you could get it in 3/4".......

Some pins do fall out and go into the pan without killing anything.

Yea im sure i could get that punch in about 1/2"-3/4" deep. Man now i have to do this all over again....i should have just checked with a light & mirror!!! There was zero damage to any of the gears or case so it must have dropped right out into the oil pan. Figure i should put a new pin back in there right away or leave it alone for awhile. It probably has been missing for some time????

Man, if you got all the case bolts good and tight with Loctite, then you are probably good.

I couldn't pass judgment on you, Greenie does not have a pin in her at this moment.......
