User here by the name of Stamey has put together a very well informed FAQ regarding the "53" block.

Look here http://www.stamey.info/Truck/Cummins53BlockFAQ.htm

195,000 and counting!!! If you have one.... oh well just keep on rolling. Don't consume yourself with it (I did for a while) you still have a great truck even if it has a the evil 53 block in it.

Does anyone know if it is possible for a 98 12V to have a 53 block? Quad Cab with the 12 Valve nice truck.... too far to go look for myself! I asked the guy to look for it but I am not sure he understands. Does the 12 valve have the same issues a 24 valve has with a 53 block. Looking to buy a second truck and was just curious. 196k and counting! Any help would be appreciated. You guys freak me out with all of the 53 Block talk! I am gonna ride mine out and see what happens! Still love my truck and the counseling has helped tremendously with my number 53 worries. DRIVE EM IF YA GOT EM!

some info, if you have a 98 on up with under 150000 miles , there is a program for the Dodges thru Cummins like a policy. where Cummins will cover some of the cost of reblocking that engine. I will find out some more detail and post it back on here , I just got a Dodge in today with coolant leaking 53 block and talking with parts cordinator, that owner may get some help from Cummins.

Yes the 98 12V can have the #53, BUT apparantely, cracking is rare as the engine harmonics are completely different. Jim Fulmer has a 800+ hp race 12V with a #53 and his hasnt cracked.

We all need to stick together and help the newcommers with the intial 53 shock.... it can be a hard time. (I was outside in the dark rain soaked driveway with a flashlight FREAKIN OUT after I first read some of the posts on here.) I have since found it useful to remember that I am still many steps above the POWERJOKE. You all have 300 plus on trucks... that is good to see!

over 215,000 here on a 53 block... no worries from me.. no reason to get scared because .5% of the engine blocks fail.

I too find humor in the subject ... what the hell's the point in getting all worked up about it???

I will say one thing, I'm about due for a cooling system flush, so I'm just going to invest the few dollars in an Evans cooling system and never have to worry again!
