53 Block in a 01.5?

I'm looking at this truck.

Its an 01.5 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 shortbox with the 6 speed, 47,000 miles, rear disc, 3.54 gears, 35" BFG MTs, Centerline rims, etc.

Is it possible that an 01.5 has the 53 block? The truck is about a 6 hour drive to look at it so I can't just go check it out.

Should I just ask the guy to look to see if it has the 53 on it?

He is asking $25000, which is a bit high. Thinkin of offering $22,500.

Thanks

I think it is possible to have a 53 for that year, but more than likely it won't (unless you have Haulin-n-Dixie's luck)

I would ask the guy to check and see if it does have the dreaded 53 on it, you might get lucky and he'll know where to look. If not, then give him a detailed description of its location.

$25,000 is a little high. You might be able to get him to take the 22.5k, just stay firm and don't budge (well much anyway). Thats a good lookin rig, good luck.

I would ask him to read you the numbers-don't ask for a 53, or tell him why. If it does have a 53, tell him about the problems the 53's have. you might get it lower that way.
I have a 01.5 and my block cracked at 4500. I have seen 1 at the dealer in Helena, MT that had 102,000 and the block cracked-no warranty.

That looks like Utah or Nevada?

It just stands for a casting number/production run.

You could ask for the VIN number and check to see the build date of the motor from Cummins. I did that and they told me I had a '99 motor. I dont believe they can teel if its a #53 but the date the engine was built tells a lot in this case. As for the asking price, if its an HO and clean then that sounds about right. If its not an HO and its REALLY clean then it doesnt sound to bad either. But you can always show up with the cash and that makes everything seem so much more desireable.

I don't know how you are going to get there from Bozeman in 6hrs, St George is almost 4 for me. If it was closer to me, I would be happy to look at it for you.

He was willing to meet me in Salt Lake City

6 hours would be pretty impressive to there, eh?

Well, looked at (2) different 02s. Got back from the test drive and the guy just got off the phone and had sold it. O well.

The other one, the dealer sucked. They wanted $27,995, and lowest they could go is $27,780. What a joke.

Going to look at another tomarrow.
