4x4 hub reassembly
4x4 hub reassembly
I was helping My neighbor replace the disc's and calipers on his 99 2500 ctd auto 4x4 and we took the hubs apart (later I read on the seal "do not disassemble"
) to repack the bearings and the seals looked like they can be replaced, is there anywhere we can order this seals and not pay $275 for a single hub?
Thank You.

im kinda in the same situation you are, changed out my ball joints and used a puller to get hub off but pulled it apart, kinda sucks because i took it to commercial bearing and they figured the bearings are in good condition and even if i did want to replace them they are metric and specific to dodge! not sure if thats right but i then took it to a machine shop to see if they could press it back together and was told they would need to know the rolling torque specs or else it would either come apart again or burn the bearings out in no time, sooo...seems we're stuck buying new hubs!
Yep, sorry fellas, you're SOL in putting the hubs back together. That type of assembly was lazy and dumb on Dodge's part. They should have never gotten rid of conical axle bearings. Serviceable and easily replaced (and cheaply replaced too).
However, its not as bad as you think (unless you have 4-wheel ABS). Check out RockAuto for the hub assemblies. I picked up mine for $150 or so. Its not really cheap, but better than what you thought anyway.

I pulled mine apart at 160,000 miles, pressed them back together and have been running them ever since. Every time I do front brakes I pour some gear lube in the ABS ports and it works great. 387,000 miles on the original bearings...I bought the truck brand new.
