47re Valve body removal problems!!

Thought this wasn't going to be too hard to do with some friends but we were all wrong, just spent about 3 hours trying to figure out how to get the valve body off to replace my TCC-O/D solenoid. We followed the instructions from http://www.xtremediesel.com/manuals/...stallation.pdf on page four it says to remove the park e clip or something like that, we could never find any clip to remove, we removed every bolt from the valve body so that the side towards the passenger side of the trucks will lower a little, BUT, we cannot figure out how to release the the shift cable from the valve body so the whole unit can lower out. can ANYONE help us? Pictures or any input would greatly be appreciated!!![redface] [redface]

Did you remove the kick down lever and shift lever? The e-clip is on the parking rod.

j-fox is right. This is on the drivers side, the lever goes down through the case.
Here is a pic

Now, getting it out was supposed to be the easy part. Putting it back on you need one of 2 methods.
1. a homemade or special tool called a hockey stick
or
2. stick your tongue out and bend your finger backwards while holding a screwdriver!

But really. You have to start it with your finger and then while holding it put a screwdriver on it to press it home.

K is the e clip that clip that the rod is pointing too? and you remove that? then the VB should come out? I removed the lever so that i can play with the gear selector and push it back and forth. Or is the e clip on top of that whole assembly with the gear selector?

new2ctd Mar 21, 2007 09:26 PM

That is the E-clip that's being held with the homemade tool. YES.

you have to pull that clip off to get the park rod out of the VB.

If all bolts are out and electrical plugs then that's it. Now remember the accumulator spring on the passenger side. It will fall if you don't hold it or clip it so it stays in the case.

Anyone know where to get that "hockey stick"?

new2ctd Mar 21, 2007 10:12 PM

Alot of the install kits come with them. But that's a cost you don't need.
gonna have to make one.
BD definitely has them, there is a picture of it in the instuctions.

Take a look at it and see if you can make one.
or
Those clip together things they called "roach clips" You know, Dr's use them to clamp stuff. I think they have them at some of the pharmacies and maybe even auto parts houses. But they need to be long.
I have a long set of needle nose pliers that is probably too big, its got some play but it needs to be a small tool cause its not alot of rod sticking out.

Did you give up on the finger and screwdriver method?

kevellis32 Mar 21, 2007 10:24 PM

No, I haven't gotten it out yet, It just got way to dark and cold to try and work on it so I just covered everything up and figured I am doing what I should have done last night...Homework on exactly how to take care of this

Sorry to bother again, but the valve body that you have picture doesn't look like mine when comparing where that e-clip is. That one is pretty well viable, mine definitely isn't, I still can't figure out what to release to get the VB to fall, its caught up right where the shift lever goes down into the VB area.

kevellis32 Mar 22, 2007 01:04 PM

I was looking at that users profile, is that a VB off of a 03+? or is there more that I have to remove from inside that area to get to that clip?

kevellis32 Mar 22, 2007 01:21 PM

Never mind, im an idiot and just found it

Your Instruction sheet from BD/Xtreemdiesel is named 1030416_417ValveBodyInstallation[1[.pdf
http://www.xtremediesel.com/index.as...ROD&ProdID=544

This is for 1996 through 1998 47RE's
See steps #6 #7 #16 and #19
Follow your shift linkage back to the case. There is a electric plug (safety switch) right there too.

Look closely at the pic in the instructions, there is the front drive shaft boot in the pic to help you get orientation. Also the Band adjustment nut.

You have to take the kickdown and the shift lever off of the valve body. They are on the outside of the case. They use a pinch bolt to hold them on the shaft that comes out of the case. The kickdown is a 10mm I think and the shifter is a 7/16 . loosen them and you may have to pry them open a little with a screw driver and slide them up off of the shaft. Then it should come down enough to give you some access to the park rod e-clip. NOTE: I have taken the VB out with the park rod still attatched. It can be done, but taking the clip off makes for a much easier installation. You will need about 6 hands if you try putting it back in with the park rod still attatched.

Thank you guys so much, I just all of the levers off from the outside of the case.
