another thing about having a 01.5 with the 6 speed, besides the HO is as long as you have a 2500 I'm almost positive that you have the Dana 80 rear and rear disc's...that's what I have read and that's what I have....

2001.5 has the rear disc breaks. Not sure on the axle, maybe a Dana 70 hybrid.

Anyone know what years had the 6 speed?

According to dodgeram.info, HO production started Jan 2000, rear discs came into production July 2000, both would be considered 2001 model year trucks. A lot of people called the disc brake trucks 2001 1/2s.

So, based on this, it looks like '01 and '02 HO trucks would definitely have the 6 speed and Dana 80 rear. Someone earlier in the thread says there were non-HO 6 speeds; I'm not sure what years.

Not to hijack this thread, but if I'm reading this correctly it sounds like Tom is converting his A/T to a 6spd. How tough is this to do? What's involved other than the obvious?

In terms of pure diesel engine noise, I think the HOs are the noisiest of the breed.

it's a Dana 80, I can tell buy looking that it isn't a 70....and if you look at your RPO codes it will tell you that the HO with rear discs (2nd gen) have the rear Dana 80....

Just a quick fact here, on 2nd gen. trucks, the automatics all had Dana 70s, and the 5 or 6 speed manuals all had the Dana 80.

The 1st. gen. trucks all had Dana 70s.

I've seen a couple of 00 & 01 HO's for sale that had a "7" in the 8th digit of the vin, but the later HO's have a "C". I'm not sure when this was changed. Might have been the 2002's.

No, I have the 5-Speed, but there are some guys that have converted from the auto to the 6-speed, I have done auto to manual conversions before(not in a Dodge Truck), a whole lotta work, better to get a DTT auto. About the same price as all the stuff needed for a 6-speed. And rear disc brakes became standard on the 01.5 2500, and the post about the Dana 80 is correct, any 2nd Gen. 2500 Manual trans truck has the 80, all 3500's have it in either auto or stick.

Talking

Yes, you can expect the same problems with lift pumps, get a fuel pressure gauge, and watch it like a hawk!! To prevent the pump failures, get rid of it and get a FASS, or the new one they offer w/o the filters, if you want to stick with the stock filter/heater, that's what I'm doing. Also I'm getting rid of the screen in the tank that restricts the pump, the new FASS pump comes with a pre-pump filter.

I believe that's true only for the 2500s. All 3500 duallies, AFAIK, had Dana 80s.
