2002 fuel filter insructions?
2002 fuel filter insructions?
I am about to change the fuel filter in my truck (see signature) for the first time, and realize the owners manual is no help. I have a Fleetguard FS19579 filter, and wonder if anyone can point me to a decent set of instructions.
Thanks, Steve
Thanks, Steve
Remove the screw on filter cap, pull the filter and lid out as an assembly (installs that way too), I use a suction gun to vac out the remaining fuel out of the canister (you can use your housing drain...just hope it seals up when you close it), clean out the housing (I use brake clean and a lint free rag and compressed air), install the new filter screwing the lid on hand tight (there is a torque spec, but haven't had an issue with "hand tight"), I then bump the starter using my remote switch to get the lift pump in it's 20 sec run cycle and push in the schrader valve up at the VP. Usually on the second "bump" of the engine I'll have enough fuel flow from the schrader that the engine will start and run no prob. If it takes more than two run cycles of the lift pump you better investigate that.
Here's one with pictures.

I'll just add, drain the fuel into a clear container, so you can see if you have any crud or water in it.
Did mine this past weekend, good way to kill 15 minutes.
