2001 vs 2007 5.9L

I'm considering replacing my 2001 QC 5.9 24 valve with a 2007 mega cab 5.9 and was wondering what the differences might be? Do I need to replace the lift pump in the 07 as I did in the 01? Does the auto trans have a 100-150K life as my 01 has shown? How does the mileage compare? I got 18.5 in the 01 between Santa Fe NM and Las Vegas, and back, with the cruise set at 85ish. what else should i know? is there any sort of absolute DO IT!! or DONT DO IT!!

thanks!

Just curious why you were going through transmissions so fast. Mine went 175K before needing an overhaul and it has been worked very hard as a contractors truck all its life.
From what I've red in the forums, the transmissions in the 07's aren't any better or worse in their stock form. You can build any of them stronger to handle more power, but the friction parts will still wear out in about the same miles.

I dont know why they have such a short life, i have a gauge that indicates well under 150* unless Im in heavy traffic, but never up to 200 so I dont think its a heat issue. I talked to the guy who rebuilt it this last time and his take was that they just go, there are plastic pieces that get soft and deform especially in the OD part, he also mentioned the clutch material was like paper, or paper like material and was just not up to long life.... I bought the truck with 190k so I dont know if there was a previous rebuild to my first one at 230k and the second at near 400k actual.

I'd give up my 01.5 for the right 07 in a heartbeat....and my 01.5 is in almost mint condition with all the upgrades as far as reliability go........

Thanks Kurt, that speaks volumes to me and makes me feel much better about my decision to go from my 01 to an 06 mega cab. I love my 01 but its at about 400k miles and seems to be having issues as fast or faster than I can address them to the point the beloved parasite no longer has confidence in it for our long trip to the grandkids come Christmas. Even these trucks apparently do finally get old.... which I can totally relate to

I think you'd have better luck asking 3rd gen guys with '07's what they need instead of the 2nd gen guys.
