2001 2500 diesel Quad Cab LWB 4x4
I just picked up a 2001 2500 diesel Quad Cab LWB 4x4 and I got some questions for you. First, the truck wanders a little going down the road. I can't turn the wheel more than a 1/4 turn when truck isn't moving even if I don't have my foot on the brake. The power steering pump hums from time to time also. Any ideas to correct some of these issues?

Thanks
RTM038

For the wandering issue, check the "track-bar", it's common for them to fail. Try the "search" feature to see where it's located and where to get the "best" replacement/fix.

The hard steering while not moving, dunno what to tell you about that, mine has did it since day one, I guess I just got used to it.

Check the power steering fluid level, and/or flush and fill with senthetic fluid, since I did that, no hum.

Later, Rob

Check the intermediate steering shaft under the hood -- if the slip yoke in the middle has any play back and forth (don't rotate it), it's probably bad, and may account for your wandering problem. They fail a lot.

GP

Welcome to the site rtm. ;D

The only thing I know about is not being able to turn your wheels while not moving. It's basically the size of the tires, and the weight on the tires and the friction with the ground. Even with the mechanical advantage of power steering, there's just too much friction to move it. I hope that makes sense.
