1999 24v - Power Loss Issues

Hi,

I have a 1999 Dodge 3500 4x4 with a 5spd transmission and of course the 24v cummins turbo diesel engine. I recently had to change the crank shaft sensor as the tach was working intermittently and occasionally the truck would not start. The check engine light would also come on from time to time before I changed the sensor. Immediately after I changed the sensor, check engine light went off and truck started and ran great!

About 6 hours after changing the crank shaft sensor, the check engine light came back on and the truck has a significant power loss (not all the time but occasionally - ussually more when its cold). This power loss is so significant when it occurs I can barely accelerate to 100km/hr (60mi/hr), even with my foot to the floor. The tach stays working however and the truck starts great still. I think it is also worth noting that when the check engine light came on after I changed the crank sensor the "boost" guage on my Edge Juice w/ Attitude stopped getting a reading. It was working perfectly fine before but now just stays at 0 or 1 psi regardless of the driving situation. I checked all the hoses and clamps under the hood for a boost leak and could not find one. I can hear the turbo spooling still and the truck doesn't seem to sound any different than when it was working. I am at a loss for what the issue is.

If anyone has any ideas please help point me in the right direction!

Thanks in advance!

I would disconnect your Edge first and see if power comes back. Or you could also have a bad boost pressure (MAP) sensor. Pull the codes and see what you get.

I believe you do.

Usually a loss of power is a fuel issue, whether a dirty filter or as bad a s a vp44 going out.

Any smoke? White, black? Fuel pressure?

Usually I go back to the last thing I messed around with and re-trace my steps.

Is it the correct crank sensor? can you check for codes on your 99?

Good advice above. I would have a good look at the wiring and connectors where the Edge plugs into the MAP sensor.
