Today i bought an 2001 qc sb 6speed ho Cummins i know a lot about 12v's but i have no clue on the 24's. So here's the issues it wont start unless being roll started or sprayed with starting fluid i know its bad but i had to do it. It runs good on top but like crap at around 1500 and idles rough. Check engine light isn't on but i scanned it and it had the p0216 code oh yea
the guy i bought it from put a new vp on it and lp in the tank? The truck only has 100800 miles so do you guys think its the lp vp or the ecm? Its like its not retarding the timing to make it start and that's what the guy that i bought it from said that it might be the ecm any ideas? Oh i wouldn't of bought it but i got it for 4k with a new south bend clutch but the body isn't perfect either. So come on guys let me know. I know that more than likely the vp but i figured i would ask?

Ya that was a good deal for that truck I say it on craigslist and I guess you scoped it up real quick. I was wondering what lift pump that ol boy put in the tank? If he said that he put a vp and lp on it the lp may not be a high enough pressure since the lp should be on the side of the block it is some thing wierd he put in the tank.

no I dont see that one. lol hell that would be nice to make 2 k and not do any thing. but ya I was wondering what kinda funky intank pump that guy put in it. Ya I jsut moved up to oregon for a couple months for some job training and left my stuff at home (in St.louis mo). If you know of any cheap cummins let me know. Im located in eugene I noticed you were a chapter pres how may people you got in your crew?
BTW fuel press im not sure on exact specs but i know the low fuel press warning light kit they sell somes on at 7psi so any thing over 7 but maybe some beter vp person can give you some better numbers.

is possible the guy never cleared the codes. is possible you have little to no fuel pressure, and it is possible that he knocked the keyway out when he installed the pump and the pump is out of time, easy to see if you remove the PVC "cover" and remove the VP nut and washer, will need a mirror to see if the keyway is sheared off.
I'd clear codes first, then verify fuel pressure, then check the pump keyway, after that its gonna get expensive

0216 is a dying pump and a 1689 is susposely a dead pump that should not start, according to Blue chips web site.
spending 500$ on a used pump, while might sound like a good deal, is a bad idea!! your better off spending the 1000$ for a new one with warranty.
I'd have to look it up but I'd guess the other two codes are grid relay codes (can be caused if the grids are unhooked)
If you cleared the codes, and then recheck and they came back then its a hard fault and the pump is done for, many guys have a 0216 code and its more of an inconvience than anything, but with your hard starting I'd suspect its time for a new pump...

looking around the P1689 might also be a bad lp relay in the under hood fuse box but im not 100%. Who knows I hope it works out for ya that is a low low mile truck and if the vp is scrap p pump it and drive it till the wheels fall or or the body falls off. I know the p pump option is a good deal more $$$ than just a reman vp but would be worth it in the long run on a truck with barly over 100k on it. Also change that crap fluid in the nv and fill it with syn motor oil cant remember the weight want to say 5-20 and over fill it by a quart and the main shaft bearing will be happy with you. I wish I had my 89 out here with me.
when my truck was stock before the fass150 my fuel pressure was reading 11psi wot 7-8 stock. if you keep it I have a DSS adjust trac bar. wish now I kept a carter lift pump that was given to me new. but I gave it to a vet in need last year at work. you got my number will have some time this weekend. I have the sport headlight conversion to do and next ball joints and a hub.
. like I said let me know about parts so I can get you a price from my friend. your nv5600 I have always used redline MT. get it cheap at bc auto in town. clean it out put cover back on fill to the drain plug. plug it and put in 6th bottle through the top pto bolt.

I dont live there no more bought a new home on Fairmount. I will look the trac bar is just the bar. you would need a bracket. will check later if it would fit if there is a diff on 2nd gen years.
track bar will fit this is what years it covers. http://www.sourceautomotive.biz/shop...Bar-55-20.html just need the bracket to mount it.
those plugs you showed in the picture were did they come from on the engine area. is one pulled off looks like you have it outside by the tire.
