how much or how to fix the tranny in a 2nd gen. 2500 cummins? works fine in drive, wont reverse.

 

No idea- it will depend on a ton of variables. What is wrong with yours, what overall condition your transmission is in, and what you want to do with it- possible upgrades. The previous owner of my truck, a close friend, had Aamco rebuild the trans in my truck to the tune of $2600. You will spend considerably more than that if you get a high performance transmission.

 

That happened to my 99 too. There is a large snap ring that retains the OD clutch pack in the OD housing that broke. There were pieces of it in the oil pan. The part costs ~$2. There was no other damage. I disassembled the entire trans, but if it ever happens again I will leave the trans in the truck and just remove the OD housing, replace the ring and reinstall the housing.
