According to the owners manual you are supposed to join a gym and practice bench press until you can do 225 lbs. That means you can bench the tire wit one hand while the other does up the nut. Sound reasonable?

Just buy a floor jack and keep it in the back. That way it's easier to jack the truck up and then you use the jack to put the tire back up under the bed.

Hey, I don't know what you guys' is snivelling 'bout....try it when you weight about 117 lbs. and got arms like Olive oil......Heck, I need to use my floor jack....
It's even worse when you do sumthin stoopid like buy oversize tires too....man..what was I thinking.

My brother had the "winch style" thing on his 81 or 82 style Toyota...it worked pretty well until it became all corroded from lack of use...then it was a nasty piece of work.
If you can keep it in good operating condition it's a great option.
I also really hated the "socket" that the crank lever mated with....darn lame method/style...gotta be a better way.

pb....

Last week I was stuck behind an older SUV that had said spare tire & winch cable etc... The problem was, it was not winched up snug under the vehicle... In fact, it was so loose, it would swing fore and aft bumping the frame front and back with every start and stop.. I bet the driver wondered why that vehicle was such a noisy sort!!! (the driver looked to be one of those "brane dedd" types too!)
I thought nothing about it until I realized that tire was well low enough to "catch" the ground on a bump in the road and shove it up under his bumper, snapping the winch cable and flinging the danged tire right into my vehicle's path!!! I got the heck away from that dude ASAP! What a shock that could be, for him AND me!!!
I did try to catch the driver's eye and motion to the tire, but it was no avail... Dain Bramage

I came accross a hinjed holder another member made here a while back. might be able to track it down again.

Made a holder that hinjed in front of the tire and then swung up and latched to the back of the reciever hitch.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of major repairs have you needed to do in those 1,180,000 miles? Are you still on the same set of rings and valves?
