Who really knows?????

I have a 92 with a CPL of 1315 and I'm getting ready for a vacation and need to change the coolant and thermostat. Who knows the correct number of the improved thermostat from Cummins, the one that is suppose to have less swing. I searched on another site and found several different numbers but still nothing for sure.

Also does anybody know what temperature these come in. 180F or what? 180F would be fine for summer weather here in the desert southwest.

I want to have a good number before I go to Cummins to pick up the coolant and thermostat. Also, is there a number for the gasket?

I hate it when the parts guy says this is the number they are using, makes me think they are clearing old stock out.

Thanks for any help.

Jim

Re:Who really knows?????

I am almost 99% sure the part number needed is 3802273 from Cummins this includes the gasket and a template to check for flow problems on some non intercooled engines.

IF they do not think that this is the right one, your other choice is 3934373. That is the updated tstat for the 94-98 trucks.

Just make sure the one they give you has more than one jiggle pin. I think mine that I bought had 3. Again, I am almost postitive that the one you need is 3802273.

Oh, and yes I believe the magic number for opening is 180*

Heck, I dunno. I was thinking that they opened higher than that. I know the 24v replacement t stat opens at 190. But, it is a whole different animal.

goin back into my little corner of the site now
