Wheel nut seat on rim issue-anyone clean up the counterbore?

So my steel wheels look sad-

I put new nuts on them and the taper dissapeared. Looking closely at the wheel itself- the tapered 90 degree seat area is nolonger a smooth taper.

Anyone find a grinding stone cheap where they can clean up the wheels- or do I need to just find different ones?? Love to get a set of Alcon, but I've got fairly new 16.5 tires.

Have you tried different wheel nuts, something with a wider taper? I run Dodge Dakota wheel nuts so I can use my 2nd Gen wheel caps, but they have a larger taper and work very well. I also run them on many of my other older mopars.

I'm thinking it is a 60 degree tapper , years ago I ran into the same issues with wheels on my 32 Ford . I many still have some tapper repair seats just for this issue . Mine are for 1/2 inch standard tapper . PM me intrested I look them up for you

Can you post a pic of the wheel and nut you're using?

It may be that you need a 'bulge' style lugnut so it grabs more of the conical seat area. (Essentially same as what Tcows is saying...)

I would look for something like a countersink reamer with the right angle to dress the wheel holes. Sample:

The stock nuts don't sit right on wheels with larger stud holes. This is the bulged style... the dakota ones are the same idea.

Thanks- I picked up 3 611-154's this weekend and they seem to be bigger, and the metal is harder. Seems like it will fix the problem. I've got some fuel and hydrulic line grease which is anti-galling. Not as messy as a antiseeze and it's a sticky clear grease. They are exactly the one you've pictured.
Rock has them for $0.76
