We drive about the safest thing on the road!
Well it's been about 3 weeks now since my LAST accident where I was rear ended on the I10 fwy. in Montclair.
Recap: I was going about 70 mph when the traffic came to a dead stop, I made a hard brake and stopped about 3 feet from the car in front of me, I looked in the mirror and just had time to yell "HOLD ON He is not going to make it!" to my wife and daughter. I saw his face and the smoke from his tires when he hit me square in the back, second later then he was hit. I moved foreward about 1 foot. We got off the freeway and checked for damage and exchange info, and I saw the damages. I just totaled 2 late model Nissan pick up trucks into my bumper. They first hit my 8 ton pintle hook and plate mounted to my class- V reciever. My truck seemd to not get hurt much other that my bed was up 3/4" on the passanger side and a little crooked The guy that hit me said he was going 50 mph when he hit me and then he ws hit. They had to be towed away. Anyway, I took it back to my body shop where it was just a month earlier for them to fix. State Farm agent meets with us and I told him what I want checked. Said No Problem. They put the truck on the frame rack and attached sensors to the chassis then the computer measures it with lasers to see if it was bent. The right side was 8mm farther than the left. They pulled it back and now it is exact. Got a NEW HD bumper and now I am waiting to see if they can fix the fracture on the shell or I get a new one. Hope to get it back next week. Insurance rented me a 2005 1/2 ton 4 door Silverado that thing is so quiet inside I keep falling asleep and it feels like you are driving from your couch. When I get mine back I have got to do some serious work on the sound level in the cab.

That reminds me of what happened a week after I got my truck, before I started posting here, and it's a great story!

I had parked and was walking into the local Canadian Tire, (or crappy tire as we call it in Canada), and I heard a loud crunch. I then heard my tailgate straps clicking back and forth. I thought F- . I walked back over to find a Mercedes SLK lodged on my bumper.

The guy drove forward, and his bumper fell off and his trunk popped up looking like a teepee. Roughly a third of the car was destroyed. What an idiot! He had been trying to back into the parking spot opposite me and hit the wrong pedal. He asked not to report it because his insurance was so bad. I took his info anyways, but left it in his hands to go to his insurer. If I had not heard the accident, I would have never known it happened. There was no damage whatsoever to the bumper or hitch.

That is a testimate to the toughness of dodges, and a statement on the dubious build quality of a very expensive car. I estimate $90K.

It makes me concerned that the two builders are now one company.

I was rearended probably a week ago. Some rice rocket didnt see me stopped at a red light and into my hitch he went. My hitch went through his hood, through the radiator and hit the engine. My bumper has alot of black paint and scratches all over it. Im trying to get the money for a new bumper since the chrome is pretty messed up, i hate dealing with insurance. Think ill invest in a larger steel bumper in the future, couple cans of spray paint and all fixed.

Dont get too comforatble in that chevy jim.

I know this applies to a Ford but I am sure you folks can relate. Two days ago I had a beautiful Black 96 PSD, 4x4, SC, LWB. I was driving down a rural blacktop road @ 55-60 mph aproaching an intersection. I had the right of way, and the other traffic had a stop sign. Well a 01 Blazer stopped for the stop sign and then proceeds through the intersection just as I am about to go through. I "T"-boned the blazer at 55 mph in the passenger side from the "b" post back. Both vehicles are totaled but I walked away, the other person had injuries and will be ok, they are very lucky they are alive. The impact ripped her truck body from the frame. The accident was rather violent, but I thank the #1000 engine in front and real full frame saved my A**. I will miss that truck, it never let me down.
