Want your D250 to ride like a Cadillac?

With the tranny dead in my Dodge, I had to get a truck of some sort running so I fired up a '97 GMC 3500HD 6.5L TD/mushbox that I bought recently. I took that thing in to get it tagged today and was amazed at the ride. The wheelbase is probably about 18" longer than my ext. cab Dodge but even with an 11' service bed on it, the ride is very "firm". I'm sure that the 19.5"s and the solid front axle have something to do with it and of course, the difference between a 3/4 ton and a ton-and-a-half makes it expected but it sure makes the ol' D250 ride seem smooth.

That 6.5 sure is a noisy beast. It sounds like a whole crew of guys in there with hammers trying to get out and don't even get me started on that mushbox they call a transmission. I'll be glad when I can tear it down in a few months and upgrade it to a 5.9.

The '92 D250 has IFS. The '97 3500HD has front leafs and an I-beam axle. Yes, the IFS on the D250 does help the ride.

i recently bought a 4x4 1st gen, it has front leafs! and has hard as.... we use it for nothing then empty driving around, or throw some things on the bed!

so we took 2 leafs out of the front package! the shortest and the 3rd shortest! is anything wrong with it? it almost feels like a 1/2 tone now! great!!! and the "rubber bump" thing hits the axle, once the trucks hops a little too much, even on a bump!

what do u think?
