Tranzilla!

This is a 6-Speed, 1,200hp, 1,000ft/lb trans. Might be fun!

Is there someone that can build a 518 that would be hard to tear up or is this the option? I love the auto to feed with and pull a trailer, but I don't like being broke down or tearing things up in my Mater Truck. Thanx

Just by looking at the gear ratios, this is a poor option. The lowest 1st gear is 2.98:1 and the ratios are really close. Thats just a hair higher than the Getrag's 3.02:1 2nd gear. Definately not a trans you would want to try and start out with a load. They don't say how big the input shaft is either.

Search the sticky, there's a good post on building an A518.

That is an upgraded T56, it might work for a street/strip truck, but wouldn't be any good for towing, also if you wanted one in a 2wd you'd have to run a divorced t-case as it was never to my knowledge offered with any transfer case attached. Then you'd have to get creative with the clutch and pilot bearing as IIRC those transmissions use a much smaller input shaft than what the cummins has. But if someone were to undertake that project it'd be pretty interesting.

Through word of mouth I found the guy that built mine. He used all the good stuff. He works at a tranny place but does them in his basement for cash on the side. The guy was real straight with me. He had every clutch and component laying on a bench in literally 10 min. He showed me what was smoked and what wasn't. You're set if you can find a guy like that. If I can ever be without the new truck for a awhile I might send him the allison too.
