Question Transmission Ratio's?

Howdy all,

Does anyone know what the ratio's are for the Getrag and the 518 autos?

Like what percentage is the overdrive in the 518 as opposed to in the Getrag?

I know that 3rd gear in the auto is 1:1...is 4th 1:1 in the Getrag?

Does anyone know where I could find it,or where that info would be listed?

Thanks in advance,

Vinny

Yes.

Don't know if it is anywhere close, ratio-wise, here are the specs on the NV4500.

OK, it was a hard night last night...

Thanks guys...

So the OD gearing is actually pretty close...but the Getrag beats the auto...right?

Everything being equal... how much is that in real life?
A couple hundred RPM's? Or more?
Anyone know for sure? Care to guess?

Oooooo,I need some aspirins...

Thanks again,

Vinny

It must have been a hard night.

The OD gearing on the 518 is "taller" than the Getrag OD. RPM with the 518 would be 10% lower for a given speed if the torque converter had zero slip (not happenin'). Real world I'd expect a 518 equipped truck to turn about 100 - 150 RPM less at 70 mph.

Yeah it was...

I had my Beer goggles on...wheeeee! Ooooooh....

Thanks Wanna...

So if you have the stock convertor it's a 100-150 or so RPM's...what do you think the difference would be with the 91% convertor? 200-250?

BTW,nice truck Bud...

Even a tighter converter is not going to be 100% straight through. I don't think you'd get better than a 150 RPM drop unless you plunked down the cash to put one of the 2nd gen lockup transmssions in there.

Glad you like the truck. Next time I visit my Dad in Downers Grove maybe I can take a look at yours.
