Tranny crossmembers

Are they different between standard and auto?

oldcool90 01-03-2009 11:07 PM

No, just the tranny mounts,on the 4x4 anway's.

Auto and Standard mounts are the only difference then?

On the crossmember yes. If you are doing an auto to 5sp swap their will be other things too.In trucks with a 518 auto in them the drive shaft's must be changed, and in truck's with 727's the drive shaft's are the same, and transfer case will be diff. This is in 4x4's the 2 wheel drives i dont know about.

My truck is an auto now, but I got my hands on a Getrag with t-case and everything for the swap. I have done a 727 to NV4500 swap before and the only difference was the trans mount, the holes had to be slotted in the x-member because the mount was a little further back on the NV. Not sure why the drive shafts would be different though. I've seen people use driveshafts out of a 518 truck in a 727 truck, what is the difference in them?

93Fury 01-05-2009 07:47 PM

Anybody know 100% on the driveshafts?

93Fury 01-06-2009 04:56 PM

[dummy]Anyone?

oldcool90 01-06-2009 05:52 PM

The 518 is a 727 with the over drive on the end of it making it longer which will make the transfercase set back more,so the drive shafts will be diff from the 727.The 5sp and the 727 uses the same length drive shaft's.
