mine is so bad right now with my mods it almost pointless to use the skinny petal. I am just hoping it last though the winter (use the truck to plow) then i will be swapping a manual in.

As an example of what can be gained, I picked up right at 100ft/lbs in going from a stock converter to a Suncoast (another brand should see similar results).

I just put a goerend TQ converter in my 518...It doesn't seem to put alot of "added stress" to the running gear. It just locks up better...especially in O/D. truck runs at lower rpms, and when you need the pulling power it's there. The truck basically shifts the same. I was pulling my tractor saturday( about 9,000 #s) up a very steep hill, had to stop at the top for a stop sign. Before when you stepped on it(full throttle) it would barely move the truck, yesterday i stepped into it on the same hill, and smoked the duels on my truck! I had to let off to get traction to move.

Don't skimp on a TQ I was going to get the Hughes then I did a little research and they claim they are only good to 400hp where as the Georend states 550hp plus the warranty was much better on the georend. For the extra $250 its nice to know what your getting is good and has been proven in the diesel truck world.

Yes, valid theory up to a certain hp level. I would not add a Tq Converter w/o doing a Valve body first.... but many CTD's have held 350-400 hp well for many yrs with an after market Valve Body and a stock converter.

No . I don't have a garage and usually end up working alone. I have the trans in just having trouble getting the t-case up there at the right angle. Once that is in I just have to put the lines on front shaft have a rear shaft cut and move the exhaust around to fit. Hopefully it will be together before X-MAS that will be my gift to myself .

thanks jet, thats exactly what i was wondering. Now do i need a whole valve body, or will a simple shift kit suffice? either way, if i get a new tc, i need to pull the tranny off anyway im split between building up my current transmission, and swapping in a manual. Anyone want to trade? For me its just personal preference to have a manual even though as far as i know, a built up auto is faster at the drag strip.

You can build your auto and put in a valve body that converts it to manual shift....Or better yet - go to a 47RH with a manual valve body...
Lock up TC with manual shift and still have the advantage of TC multiplication from a start...
If my other half didn't drive once in a while on vacation that's where my truck would be...

I make SoCal/TX runs all the time, if you guys end up switching them out I might be willing to haul them for you for a nice price if I am heading that way.
