torque converter

Contacted hughes for a converter and their cheepest is now 499 thay said. I read where I though theres was 309 out the door. For that I would just get a goerend conveter anyone know what one is the best bang for your buck now?

I don't know which is the best value-to-performance, but if you can afford it a Goerend or Suncoast is going to do the best job. That's quite a price jump from Hughes. They quoted me around $350 a little over a year ago.

My experience

The current Hughes price you quoted is not far from what I paid 1 year ago. I remember paying over $500. for my 15XFM. The shipping was spendy, plus the converter was done in about 1 week. Most other places take several weeks for turn-around. I do wish I would have waited a little longer and bought a Goerend. The Hughes is better than stock, but it is not where I want to be on transmission performance. I have rode in a local guys 1st gen with a Goerend........it feels almost as good as lockup! I was impressed. I am planning to upgrade my Hughes to a Goerend soon. Just my opinion/experience.

Some companies can reman your original. Just have to find a core to send in so you don't have any down time. I think thats what happened with mine because it is a stock unit, but it stalls somewhere around 1400-1500 rpm's. Don't know who could've done it, though, or how much it costs, or even if it's worth it. Just wanted to let you know the option is there.
