Yes sir, and it doesn't move easy! I used a ratchet strap hooked to the AFC housing on one side and then hooked to a long wood clamp on the other side. I put the wood clamp on the passenger side of the engine compartment and stuck the bottom of it down in the fenderwell somewhere (frame, crossmember, something like this) and pried. My heart out. Make sure and have someone ready to tighten the bolts back up for you while you hold it in place if you do it this way.

No I know why I've been reluctant to try doing a timing bump.

It's a bit of a hassle the first time, but well worth it, especially at your elevation

ace, just use a ratchet strap. unhook the throttle linkage. hook one end to the engine hoist loop. hook the other end to the pump, i hooked it on the large ledge below the pump top. loosen the bolts and strap it tight. i also remove the bolt to the afc. leave the strap on until you tighten the bolts. it's simple.

Way easier to do the second time around. Got a strap wrench from the Snap-On truck the other day also and made it easier. I bumped a tooth on the pump gear and had to turn it back to stock afterwards.

timing

dont let anyone scare you i came up with the ratchet strap idea check my pics in my gallery yull se the strap and the home made key you need do search in this forum for timing yull see my name pop up as well as many other read up a bit the only thing you need to make sure is that you losen every bolts almost everyone that had some trouble is because they didnt the ratchet idea is a must just take your time so you dont bend fuel lines and you wont regret the results

when your engine starts to sound like a 6.2 gm you went too far

i just use a big pair of channel locks from the top of the afc housing to the fuel line bracket closest to the pump and it works every time, just to give another idea

Just a few questions about pump timing for my curiosity.
How much do you advance the pump? I understand it is moving 1/8" but about how many degrees is it?

Is there any (easy) way to check what the timing is before it is moved?

All of the times we remove and reinstall our pumps, how close to stock timing do we really get when we get them in? My index mark is not real precision looking.

What are the effects this mod will do to our engines as far as mechanical noise?

Also after the fun wears off how will this effect out mileage?

Should the fuel lines be loosened and retightened to release the stress from torquing the pump?

Thanks Jim

What do you mean? my 6.2 was healthy sounding with Banks exhaust.
How about a 6.2 starting on WD-40?

Does this affect the starting characteristics of the engine?
Thanks Jim
