Question >>> temperature gauge quit <<<

The factory temperature-gauge in the wife's truck has quit working.

The needle just stays at the coldest setting.

The rest of the factory gauges work.

It is not the thermostat, as it has plenty of heat.

Which is most likely, the sending unit or the gauge ??

Is there some test I can perform at the sending-unit end of the wire that will determine which is at fault before I drain off enough coolant to actually remove the sender ??

Thanks.

you should be able to pull the single wire off the sending unit and gound the wire. if the gauge pegs to hot, than the gauge and wire are good. make sense?

That was easy enough.

When I finally actually found the sender, the wire was already off.

I doctored the friction-fit end with a pair of pliers and snapped it back in place.

The truck hasn't yet been driven since, but I believe that should cure the problem.

I was dreading turning over everything on this 7-acre place to find the extra new sender that I put away somewhere.

At the extreme left-rear of the head, immediately under the rear corner of the last valve-cover, directly under the wiper-motor if it is a 1st Gen. Dodge.

The gauge is now working fine.
