Agreed about skinny tires. They are way better. When my tires are bald, they will be skis. I know I'm only hurting myself with these big fat 315's. They just make the truck look better, that's all. They are good in snow though (while their new). Lots of siping rather than a few giant lugs.

we both hate them, i do alot of 4x4'ing with him to get to riding spots... they suck in the mud and don't clean themselves out, they are horrible in the rain and didn't shine to well in the snow we just had, good in wet grass though. they wear weird too...

One tire doesn't handle all snow conditions. A mud tire works good in wet sloppy snow and an AT type tread works best in colder snow. If the snow is real deep and packs well, a wide tire is best. If not too deep a narrow tire will dig down to a solid base, provide less frontal area and more weight on a smaller tread area. For plowing, I liked the 33x12.50's I had on my '78 Power Wagon, all chained up of course. They provided good flotation for ramping the snow. On road I prefer a narrow tire with lots of siping for better grip on packed snow and ice - studs are nice too! What most everyone has said.

only in cal. the harder the snow, the wider the tire, the more rolling resistace you have.

And I'm not a fan of the BFG a/t ko tires... they suck...

I agree whole heartedly with M-55s. I'm running stock size, they've been the best for traction and best for tread life. I'm approaching 40K on them and still pretty good life left in them. I did get 45K out of the stock Michelins, but they were a terrible snow tire. Cooper ATs were pretty good traction, but only gave me 16k of life. New M-55s are about $275 a pop around here, probably more elsewhere. So for me at least treadlife is important.

If you want/need something more aggressive then the BFG A/T's which are great tires, I recommend Interco TrXus M/T's (there the best M/T I have ever used in the snow 33x11's on my Wrangler) Noise is not bad at all and life was 45K + I would have them on my Ram but they don't make large sizes so I'm using SSR's

I'm running ProComp 305's on stock rims, no lift. Good price, good tread. Happy so far.

wow thanks for all the help. never thought this tread would go for three pages. Right now i got some dunlap A/Ts on the rear and a miss matched set on the front. I realy like the dunlaps( have put 20K on them and still have a lot of tread) for the driving. And there are good for the little bit of mud i find. but here in kansas the snow is never the same frome day to day and the truck is going home to my dad back on the Oregon coast while i am in Iraq. thanks you guys are great!!!!!!

Cooper S/T
I have them on the back of my 2wd dually and they are awesome. Got four mounted, balanced, etc for $800. Gets stuck a lot less. I have buddies with them on their 4x4s and love them.

Anyone try bridgestone duelers up north? We don't get snow much down here, but they work well in most other conditions. I have A/T's on all 4, and with my one-tire-fire, I've only gotten stuck twice, both times with heavy trailers.

Bridgestone Duelers in one word SUCK...not too bad on a clean dry highway

you must ask yourself :
What do you really do with the truck?
is it a toy that you get out when there is 2 feet of snow and off road a lot
then try the BFG MT (sipping helps A LOT)
Is it a regular year round driver with moderate off roading
then try the BFG AT
I Have run MUD KINGs, BFG MTs, Cooper SSTs, Bridgestone Revos and was always less than inpressed,
mudders are fine for the really deep stuff and in the dirt but suck hind tit on the road, rain and ICE
ATs cover everything Pretty well
My money goes into BFG ATs every 26k miles (60k tread warrenty if they cant see the abuse makes for half price replacement sets

Cooper ATRs. I'm on my fourth set, IIRC. They last over 50K miles, and do very well on snowy, slick or wet pavement. Seem to do pretty well in deep (as in 20 inches) snow we had back in Dec 2004. I was trying to pack the foot or so of snow in the parking lot, but it was too dry.

Funny you push BFG's so hard. My brothers had nothing but trouble with his A/T's, and it's just a camper/dirt hauler. Not much off-roading either. Thats why I went with something different. Bridgestones were rated higher than all other A/T's at tirerack. Not knocking your experiences, I guess we just have different conditions and uses for the tires we use.

I run the Dueler Revos on my truck and they arent bad. Not great on ice and they float a bit on slush but I havent gotten stuck. Im actually thinking about going back to the 2358516 on my truck. Has anybody run the Transforce AT's?
