steering questions

hi fellas

i took my truck apart for some sanblasting and couldnt help but notice that the powersteering pump on the motor was leaking bad. is there like a gasket or seal between that and the motor that i can replace? and the steering box was leaking bad too along with a ton of play in the steering. is it possible to buy new or rebuilt steering boxes?

thanks for all advice and help

reman

you can get a reman steering box from any auto parts source, napa might have a better warranty, the pump is sold with or without reservoir, if both are leaking, rubbers shot, replace both

Or you could get one from napa.

I've gotten both from napa and have been satisfied thus far.

Sometime , a LOT of that play is in the joint from the steering column going into the steering box! Very common problem that can be fixed for ~$10. Or upgrade to a universal style shaft like Borgeson or make your own from a 2nd gen Dodge set up. HUGE difference in my dually.

The seal from the steering column input will leak a lot from a worn out joint too. It puts wear on the seals. $20 from the dealership for a seal kit for there. Mine was so bad that the bearings were probably gone, so i got a new box. should of tried to fix it but I didn't
