Speed sensor question

Will a faulty speed sensor that is mounted on the transfer case be a possible culprit to a lose of cruise control?

yes...... simply put, one of the "inputs" to teh cruise is your speed.. if it isnt receiving a signal or its fluctuating wildly, the cruise wont engage or stay engaged or it will surge ......

Interesting, I've been trying to narrow down my cruise control problem and I never thought of this. When my cruise control last worked, it was surging like crazy then finally it quit for good.

I'm guessing the sensor we're talking about is that goofy looking black thing on the driver side of the TC?

Sorry to hijack

Driver's side, right at the side of the Transfer case. The wires are bunched together with the 4x4 transfer case switch, which is on the top of the transfer case. Again, this would be for a 93, as shown on page 8W-25 of the FSM. $85.00 from dealer, $38.00 from NAPA.

Thanks for the input. After I R & R, I will post my results, in hopes of helping cure the lose of cruise control. Before I forget, I already diagnosed the servo, vac lines, and cable. Next is this sensor. It could also be the brake switch, which I haven't got to yet. I hate throwing parts at it, but the way I feel is that the 125,000 miles on my W250 are not mine, and it probably needs to have some TLC anyway.
