So I'm doing 75 on the freeway, when all the sudden...

..the truck just gives out. Felt like the transmission went into neutral. By the time I managed to move over the three lanes to the shoulder, the truck is dead and I'm steering with pure armstrength...lol.

Anyway, the truck is dead and won't start. I'm laying down, looking around, crawling around under the hood. Everything looks good, but it won't start.

Now, last time the truck ground to a halt it was my 518 giving out. So, of course, I'm fearing the worst.

I get back in, put it in 1st and crank it. She rolls forward. Whew...ok, I still have gears...

I think about it, and then...wait a second! Yep, the two wires going to the shut off on the pump are just hanging loose. I put them back on and bam! Starts right up.

Of course, this happened 2 more times before I got home, but at least I knew what I was in for those times.

Gotta crimp some new ends on those wires!

That is the worst feeling at least you were able to get it going.

Go to Radio Shack and buy some of those multi colored jumper wires and toss them in the glove box. You would be surprised how many times I have used them over the years.

I had a cummins die on me in a atlis sky track fork lift a couple weeks ago. It was a p-pumper 12v that lost all power. When i got there in the tool truck the driver and another machanic where just stading there looking at the motor. Long story short i tied the shut down lever open and jumped it off my truck and then drove all the way back to the motor pool because the driver was scared

I soldered on a ring terminal and put it through the small stud and nut on the FSS so it never happened again.

Always good to have a set of alligator jumpers in case of ignition switch failure to give 12v to the blue wire, you can jump 12v to the FSS, start the truck by arcing the large stud to the small stud on the starter and you're good to go.

hey-Hey!!!,
My boss just got a 6.7 PS and while I am sure it is a nice truck( ridden in it and so I'm sure ), there is no way I'd trade my clip-lead Cummins for it...unless perhaps I were allowed to sell it, then I could go hunting again...
cheers,
Douglas
