Smokescrew Locknut

Last Saturday I got the courage and took my smokescrew and turned it in 3 full turns. I must say I'm very pleased with the difference thus far. BUT here's my problem... my locknut no longer fits on. So I'm wundering... Will it make a great deal of difference if it's on there or not? I realize the tension on this screw so it does make me wunder.

The locknut won't fit 'cause the screw is in so far? If that's the case, I'd say back it out enough to grab a thread or so with the locknut...the way these old girls rattle, that screw just may fall into the top of the housing...prolly wouldn't damage much just sitting on top of the diaphram, but it could cause some driveability woes.

fwiw, with the smoke screw in all the way, your cruise egt's will be a bit higher...how much higher is fairly relative to how much your pump is turned up. With my old pump, I saw a 100 degree drop in cruise temps when I went from full in (no lock nut, that's how I bought it) to totally removed. Just some food for thought.

Yup I'll be getting that fixed tomorrow lol. I assume just snug it with a wrench?

Oh and I dont do alot of highway driving so it doesn't effect too much. Considering I have no cruise and no overdrive I just stick to in town putting and smoking!

Yeah, snug it up...there's prolly still some factory lok-tite on there. Should be fine with your type of driving...that added fuel gets that auto tranny away from the stoplight pretty well, if I had to guess
