shifting

Hey I was wondering if it is hard on anything to shift with out using the clutch? Its easy to do in my 92. But will it hurt the clutch ?

It shouldn't hurt the clutch your not even putting it in the equation. As long as the sincro's are good in the trans and goes in smooth you should be OK. There are allot of truck drivers that only use the truck to start out from a stop and then not at all. I do this allot in my neon only because I'm to lazy to push in the clutch I even down shift with no clutch.

Thats where i learned to shift like that, driving a truck, just didnt know if you could get away with it on a pickup without hurting it down the road. Ya its easy both up and down. wooohooo I love being lazy

not a good idea in the long run in a big truck its fine cause its a unsincronized tranny in a lil truck it will eventuly ruin the syncros whats why in real old worn out truck they grind while going in gear or you gutta double clucth em cause the syncros are shot. probly fine to shift without the clucth alil bit but dont do it all the tiime if you like your tranny

That's right it will wear down the syncronizers in the transmission. A big truck has none so it is ok. I used to run a wrecker service and when we hired a big rig driver we always had transmission problems after a while.

Only hurts tranny when the speed of gears is not correct. Use the clutch.
