rusty injection pump?
rusty injection pump?
I just installed my gov spring today and when i opened up the pump most of the metal parts inside were rusty. so now im wondering do i need to have the pump rebuilt? i just recently had problems with the truck missing real bad. replaced the injectors with new pod's. didnt fix the problem. after a few WOT's it cleared up and stopped missisng. could the rust getting into the injectors and clogging them up have been the problem? has any one else seen this when they installed their gov spring? is this somthing to be woried about or is it no big deal?
You shouldn't be seeing rust inside the pump. Sounds like somebody didn't drain or change the fuel filter for a long time! There are filter screens at the injectors to catch anything coming out of the pump. It would be best to have the pump redone and the injectors cleaned.
Real world, if it's running OK, keep running it. The pump is screwed anyway, worst that could happen is it dies. If it sends a bunch of trash out to the injectors and clogs the screens they can be cleaned.
