I'm in the process of ordering an overhaul kit for my rear diff and I'm just wondering specifically which Dana model I have, 70 or 60?? my truck is a 93 W250 4x4. If anyone could give me a specific kit # that would be even better. Thanks in advance.
P.S. what should I expect to pay roughly??....any tips on the rebuild from one who has done it??

I'm hoping to get an overhaul kit....including bearings seals etc. rear end is sloppy and growly
I have a guy who sets up my diffs for me. I just wasn't sure if I had a 60 or 70. I know my unit is a limited slip and I have to buy new clutch plates...maybe my bearings are fine just my L.S. unit is worn??

There is what's known as a 'bill of materials' stamped into the passenger side axle tube on Dana axles. You'll probably have to scrape some paint/rust away to see it, and there may be more that one series of letters/numbers in that area. The BOM has 7 or 9 characters, I think. In any event, the BOM gives the parts supplier everything he/she needs to know about your axle, so you're sure to get the right components the first time. I got genuine Dana/Timken stuff for mine last year and it cost about 400 clams, give or take. New R&P, all bearings shims and seals. With the BOM, the guy could tell me exactly what truck I had, where it was assembled...everything. Pretty slick. Good luck
If your backlash is out of spec you really just need to move some shims around. Unless the bearings are bad, or seals are bad I wouldn't mess with it. You could also check your wear pattern to see if the pinion gear is hitting the ring gear in the right spot.
Supposedly the cross pins that hold the spider gears in place will wear and cause slop, or the carrier that these pins ride in will wear. But with your limited slip I don't think you have cross pins.
But to answer your question, I don't have any part numbers or anything.

D70U is what it should be.
A good distributor will ask you the BOM before selling you any parts. Just went though mine. Needed a master install kit, new yoke, new carrier, side/spider gear thrust washers, and crosspin. As well as some green sleeve retainer loctite on the carrier bearing races, hope it holds for a good while.
got my stuff at ringpinion.com
