If he wants to blow smoke you could go with POD's. They are a very dirty injector that will be hot and smoky. He could also put in a 366 spring and turn the fuel screw a couple turns. I wouldn't do much with an auto tranny though...

I think you can build the auto's to do good, but I have no experience with that. You need to check out the sticky in here, it has all kinds of info on how to turn up these old trucks and make em run real good.

Yeah, he could build the auto to be strong, or he could just do a few little upgrades and not worry about the tranny... unless he has the money to spend. I know I would love to have my 518 built. (An NV4500 would be my 1st choice but oh well...)

A minimum of a Functioning Pyrometer is suggested before any tuning begins. You can destroy your engine!!!

If it's a play truck, remove the pump top to install the 3200rpm gov spring and while you're there remove the AFC. This is not recomended for trucks that are required to pass omissions!! This will give him the biggest HP Gain on that truck. Or you always have the ground pin and fuel screw........forget about the smoke screw, it's a waste of time. The one on the back is the only one you care about.

Grind the pin and see if you want more. If the budget's tight then remove the AFC lever, you won't be sorry on a DD Play Toy. Tow piece.........that's a little different story.
