Passanger Seat Latch.

Where do you guys find the latch that holds the passengers seat down in a Crewcab 1992 Dodge?

Ken.

Are you referring to a Club cab? Dodge stopped building square body crews in '84. Also there are two different styles available. Capt chairs/console or the 50/50 split back bench. Either way I am pretty sure its a trip to a salvage yard for either.

kodiakken 12-14-2015 07:06 PM

Yes Club Cab is what I meant.
Would you know if it is the same catch as the Ramchargers used?
Ken.

freight train 12-14-2015 07:42 PM

Absolutely it is. It would be the same latch used from 82-93 on all RC's and club cabs.

Is this a trip to the wreckers item you think..

oliver foster 12-15-2015 06:33 AM

I would say that is your best bet.

I haven't seen a club cab in a wrecking yard in over a decade. Regular cabs ? Yes. Club cab .... NO.

What is wrong with your latch ? Generally, anything can be fixed.

Grave digging here..... but remember it is October..[redface]

The OP Never returned on this one, but I know now why he was asking.

The plastic isolater sleeve which is molded on the latch receiver striker mounted to the floor becomes brittle and falls apart. If I don't have this lined up perfectly, it won't latch.

Now, I can remove it, weld a sleeve to the receiver striker where the plastic isolater is located, but I was curious to know if anyone else has found an innovative way to fix this. Without that plastic piece in place, the seat will not lock down. Eventually, I'll be at that junction. The last RC I saw in a boneyard it was missing its receiver.

ideas ? I thought of taking it to the PC guys who do linex and having them linex the whole top.

Mopar # 4358210

Thanks..

Maybe split a piece of brass tube long ways, finagle it over the top of the latch, then braze it in place?

It doesn't look like it would be too hard to make one if you can't find one.

Man they must be made of unobtanium if OLLIE doesn't have one![laugh]

NJTman 10-21-2016 05:43 PM

24 year old plastic is the real issue. Oliver said he would look for me.

The guys at Linex said it would quickly fail under the stress of being clamped by the seat

elway12 10-21-2016 07:52 PM

I would like to see what the latch looks like? That being said I too think a sleeve(brass, steel, plastic) would be the best bet. The question is does it have to be all the way around the latch receiver? I will be taking my seats out soon so this is a good thread. Hopefully mine won't be in bad shape!!

kodiakken 10-21-2016 09:24 PM

Mine the latch was wore right out so I had to peen the latch to the handle so it would release when you worked the handle..

So, today I head to a boneyard I saw a ramcharger in (actually 2), to get my seat striker bracket.

They scrapped both of the RC's.

So I head to a boneyard I've never been to before, out in the middle of nowhere on some long dirt road. This guy has some MAJOR stuff in there. Really rare cars and trucks, plus a couple of RC's. I ask him about it, and he said "NO, I won't sell you the bracket. You have to buy the entire seat. " I told him I didn't need a seat, just the part that bolts to the body. He didn't care.

I say thanks, and move on.

Got none of my money, but it appears he's got gold in there,

MrFusion 10-24-2016 11:36 PM

Yah...he's got gold and he knows it. How much did he want for the whole seat?

$200.

He could have made $20 for the striker, but refused

MrFusion 10-25-2016 05:23 PM

There USED to be a place like that Enola PA. In the mid 90's I found the sad remains of a 1968 Charger that looked like it had been burned out. The only usable parts left on it were some really spidery tail lights and a manual steering box. I asked how much for the box and got a 10 minute tirade about how they would only sell the ENTIRE car and I wasn't supposed to be in that part of the yard blah blah blah. I asked how much for the "car" and laughed in his face when he said $1500. I laughed the whole way to my truck and never went back.

Spent 5 hours traveling about to finally find a seat latch a half hour away.

Found one a half our away. Ramcharger body, no frame, but it worked. Put the new used striker in, and lubricated / cleaned everything up. Works like brand new...

Paid $20

I have a couple of them sitting on the shelf. Didn't know you were looking for one.

Well, they're worth about $20 each in decent shape. New were sold $14. From dodge. Hang on to them as they will help someone out someday

My spare original one is going to be my guinea pig in honor of mknittle

Passenger seat rear release handle

Anyone ever had this happen? Guess this is from slamming seat down to get tit to latch! Discontinued parts from what I've researched. thought to weld back together but there's plastic bushing in side the tube and it's crappy cast potted metal.

I’d have to go look at mine to be sure but it think I would cut some of the broken piece off the rod then fab a bushing to go around the rod and through the hole. You could use a wooden dowel with a hole drilled through the center or something similar. Then cut it in half lengthwise to get it around the rod and zip tie or carefully glue it back together. Won’t be pretty but would probably work. As I’m sure you’ve found out: that part is unobtainium unless it comes with the entire seat base. Then it’s $$$
